Brood in Review: Vainglorious

Known as Gloriam Incognitus or the Pride Anon, this brood act as a subspecies of the greater Anon species. Hailing from the asteroid cluster Endstone in Gutterspace.
On earth a member of this brood is colloquially referred to as 'Vain' or a 'Vainglorious', and the classification for the group as a whole likewise. This name has to do both with the inflated sense of ego most known members of this brood have in regards to themselves as well as their feeding habits dealing with like emotions.

Vainglorious share all features and abilities held as common among the greater anon race including their empathic sense, emotional energy ingestion, hyper-adaptivity and self-sustaining forms requiring only emotional energy to maintain themselves.

Each brood of Anon have distinguishing features inherent to their physical form. For the Vain brood these traits are their needle-like spines, and teeth.

Vain spines are sharp, but brittle, extensions of their bodies which protrude notably a points all about their bodies, but more notably on their backs and sides than their fronts.  These spines lose cohesion swiftly when detached from the form of a Vainglorious, but similar to many spined or quilled creatures they are a defense mechanism capable of delivering a painful sting.  That said; more than this, the Vainglorious adapt alongside the species they grow alongside, and these spines become capable of delivering chemical injections which cause fits of mania, anxiety, hunger or nausea in target species.  By applying these shots, both openly and in secret, the Vainglorious instill in their prey issues which allow for them to feed on their pride or lack thereof which their prey exhibit.

Vain teeth are similarly brittle and sharp, constantly growing and being replaced similar to those of a shark.

All anon have a body composed of external matter, but the Vainglorious is middling in their capacity to command this matter.  Vain Anons who do focus their ability to alter their form can condense their spines into weapons, elongate their already longer than average arms and legs and on occasion jettison their spines if need be.

Their bodies adjust to the temperature of the space around them, making them indistinguishable from their surroundings for a species with thermal sight..

Each individual brood of Anon is associated with and feeds on a particular emotion. For the Vain brood this emotion is ego. They feast upon and toy with the ego of other races. To this end they are typically more actively hostile and aggressive than other broods, even the so called 'Hater', as their aims are not to offend or feed off of a moment, but to leave lasting emotional wounds which cripple their prey's self-image.

Beyond their physical adaptations the Vainglorious are the most adept when it comes to acclimating their scent.  A vainglorious who has trained the skill can alter their chemical makeup to elicit the scent of fresh-baked cookies, dead skunk or just about anything in between in order to mess with, scare off or lure in their prey.

With all these skills and more the Vain brood are a true parasite and can be considered a pestilence upon the many worlds they've inhabited, and their recent acclimation to earth is no exception.
